September 8, 2001 | 12:00am
You know youre already a star when you are able to fill up a concert venue on a Sunday night. Thats exactly what Lance Raymundo did when he recently staged his first solo concert at the Hard Rock Café presented by K91 FM. It was a risk on his part to schedule this momentous event of his career on such a day, but he was very confident about it. And just as he expected, Makatis normally laid-back Sunday night was transformed into a jam-packed party place as people flocked to Hard Rock Café to watch Lance strut his stuff onstage.
Lance has not only proven that he can already draw big crowds anytime, he also shown that he can sustain the audiences excitement for the entire show and still leave them longing for more.
The opening itself was a spectacle as two barely-dressed women emerged from the thick smoke and paved the way for Lances grand entrance. There was sweet chaos onstage and seemingly coming from nowhere, Lance suddenly appeared. . . prompting deafening screams from his many female fans. Dressed in a body-hugging suede and leather punk-inspired outfit by Alcs Porras, Lance looked every inch the sex symbol that he is.
The show was like a musical time warp as he toured his audience through a string of hits from different musical eras. He opened the show with a fierce rendition of David Bowies Lets Dance and segued to the lovely ballad, Somebody. He made the girls swoon with recent romantic tracks such as When You Say Nothing At All as well as a sexy version of the classic hit Feel Like Makin Love, wherein he seduced the audience and crawled on stage like a wild cat in a celibate rage.
There was dance music too and the people were not able to resist bumping and grinding to songs like She Bangs, I Want U and many more! Of course, Lance highlighted his two hits (You are the One and Hope for the Lonely Nights) as well as some favorites from his much-loved debut album from Viva.
The shows afterglow continues to shine so brightly over Lance. He is now a certified concert artist! He also became a trendsetter as he showcased his body with very interesting outfits that are slowly making their way to the closets of Manilas fashion-conscious crowds. One very striking image of him was his heaven/hell look. He would sometimes appear on stage with qualified leather wings on his back. And on wilder moments, hed shock his audience with quilted leather bat wings with matching tail! His brand-new physique has also transformed him into a health and fitness icon as curious watchers constantly marvel over his drastic physical development.
Shortly after his much-talked about solo concert, he toured the malls alongside Jaya to promote their respective albums. The tour was a major success! Lance recently staged a very energetic show for Klite FM Baguio. He is scheduled to do a series of shows in the next months.
All the opportunities knocking on Lances door makes it plain to see that he is indeed Philippine musics most exciting new star.
