‘Flattered’: Dennis Trillo on TikTok fame with Jennylyn Mercado, Jonathan Bailey tag
MANILA, Philippines – Dennis Trillo is happy to serve as a mood booster with his wife Jennylyn Mercado, through their married couple skits on TikTok.
Dennis and Jennylyn have been entertaining their followers on TikTok with skits that usually shows the actor giving in to his wife’s antics and humor. Their videos commonly reflect a running gag between married couples, where the wife usually gains the upper hand in whatever argument arises.
The introverted Dennis admitted to media outlets, including Philstar.com, that he was initially not interested in making TikTok videos.
“'Yung social media, ayoko niyan talaga dati kasi hindi ako ‘yan e. Hindi ako sumasayaw. Hindi ako masyadong showy sa personal kong buhay. Pero ‘yun na nga, nung medyo tumanda-tanda ako, saka ako napasok diyan kasi na-realize ko na importante siya sa trabaho dahil artista ka,” Dennis said.
It was initially a matter of curiosity for the actor, who is refreshingly candid for a seasoned star. Dennis eventually saw social media as an avenue to make himself more visible beyond TV and films. It has also become a platform for him to unwind and de-stress.
“Noong una sabi ko subukan ko, tapos nung nakita ko na maraming natutuwa, maraming mga comments mga tao. Sabi ko, ‘Okay ito a.’ Natutuwa mga tao. Tapos hanggang dumami at nag-viral na ‘yung mga ginawa kong kalokohan. Nagbabasa ako ng comments. Nakikita ko na ang daming parang genuine na natutuwa talaga. Sige, tuloy-tuloy ko na ito. Marami akong napapangiti, marami akong napapalimot ng problema. So tinuloy-tuloy ko na lang. At least nakakatulong sa kanila, sa career, at nakakagaan ng mood ko kapag ka gumagawa ako ng kalokohan. Natawa rin ako sa mga pinaggagawa ko,” the soft-spoken actor shared.
His initial videos were his own ideas, but his wife, Jennylyn, is now primarily the one who comes up with their video content.
“Minsan kailangan mo rin ipakita ang side mo na hindi madalas makita ng mga tao. Tingin ko mabo-bore sila kung puro lungkot lang yung nakikita nila, puro drama lang sa TV. Mas maganda na makita nila yung side na talagang mas makaka-relate sila,” Dennis said.
Apart from TikTok, Dennis is also aware of comparisons between him and “Bridgerton” star Jonathan Bailey. Dennis said he is flattered to be compared to the Hollywood star.
“Siyempre flattering. Hollywood na artista. Sobrang gwapo. Umakting, kumakanta, sumasayaw. Thankful at flattered,” he said.
