Eddiegul gives others a chance to run PBFI; Congressman Gullas says he can't give much time for cage body

Cebu 1st District Rep. Eduardo "Eddiegul" R. Gullas would have been unopposed had he decided to run for president of the Philippine Basketball Federation Inc. (PBFI).
But in a last minute, Gullas politely begged off from what could have been a sure victory for the reason that he couldn't give his full attention and wholistic support needed to run such a fledgling organization.
"As president, one should give his all to the organization. Being a representative of the first district of Cebu, I have my responsibilities to my constituency and as president of the University of the Visayas, I have also my duties to the entire UV community," said Gullas.
"Because of these responsibilities, I may not be able to give my all to the organization. That is why I demured. I begged off from taking over the reins of PBFI," added Gullas.
Gullas could have won the election without opposition as the other interested party, Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines (BCAP) head Chito Narvasa, withdrew his candidacy after learning that the Cebuano solon was tipped to vie for PBFI presidency.
Gullas said some PBFI officials are persuading him to serve as PBFI president even just for one year so that the newly-formed organization will have a fitting take off, but he graciously turned down the offer.
"Basketball is a sport close to my heart and to the millions of Filipinos. Dili ko gusto nga dili gyud total ang atong focus sa organization especially that we are at our lowest ebb," said Gullas.
Gullas, however, assured the PBFI officials that he will still help the organization in any way he can as a member of the House of Representatives.
