Knicks mas gutom sa NBA crown
SAN ANTONIO — Huling nagkampeon sa NBA ang New York Knicks noong 1973 para sa kanilang ikalawang korona.
Ang ikatlong titulo ang target ng Knicks sa pagsagupa sa Spurs sa Game One ng kanilang best-of-seven championship series.
Sumasakay ang New York sa isang 11-game playoff winning streak para pagharian ang Eastern Conference.
“When you can prepare the right way, when you do your routines, you treat it like a normal game, it allows you to be as normal as possible,” ani star guard Jalen Brunson na hinirang na MVP ng Eastern Conference sa 4-0 sweep sa Cleveland Cavaliers.
Muli namang aasahan ng San Antonio si 7-foot-4 star center Victor Wembanyama na kinilalang MVP ng Western Conference finals series kontra sa Oklahoma City Thunder.
Puntirya ng Spurs ang ikaanim na NBA championship matapos noong 2014.
“It’s a great team,” sabi ng 22-anyos na si Wembanyama sa Knicks. “It’s a great team of experienced guys who are not here by chance, but by relentless effort over the years.”
Papagitna rin ang pagtutuos nina Fil-American guards Jordan Clarkson ng Knicks at Dylan Harper ng Spurs.
“Definitely inspiring to the Filipino-Americans and Filipinos all around the country. It’s definitely going to be fun to watch,” sabi ni Clarkson sa duwelo nila ni Harper.
“One of us two taking a championship back home to the Philippines and representing that well,” dagdag pa ng Gilas Pilipinas star guard.
“Me and him get to do something really special, representing our country, where we’re from, represent everything on the biggest stage in basketball,” ani Harper na anak ni dating five-time NBA champion Ron Harper.
Ayon kay Wembanyama, ramdam pa rin ng Spurs ang emosyon sa pagsibak sa Thunder sa kanilang conference finals.
Determinado si Wembanyama na matulungan ang San Antonio na muling magkampeon matapos noong 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007 at 2014.
