Enalapril protects kidney function

-
Enalapril, which belongs to a class of anti-hypertensive drugs known as the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, protects kidney function similar to another class of medicine for high blood pressure. This was shown by a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The study showed that the decrease in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) – considered the best measure of kidney function in the enalapril group (composed of 74 patients) – is -14.9 ml per minute per 1.73 m.

Meanwhile, the GFR in the angiotensin receptor blocker group (ARB), another blood pressure lowering agent, is -17.9 ml per minute per 1.73 m.

This -3.0 ml per minute per 1.73 m indicated that enalapril was not inferior to ARB.

The protective effect of enalapril on the kidneys is significant since they are among the vital organs being damaged with long-term elevation of the blood pressure.

Nephrologists or kidney specialists agree that the GFR is very important because it determines the status of the kidneys and the extent of damage or disease of this vital organ. This gives them a better idea of the treatment of the patient’s hypertensive condition.

Aside from giving renal protection, enalapril also played a vital role in lowering the risk of cardiovascular events.

Pascual Laboratories offers not just a safe but an inexpensive brand of enalapril. Compared to the originator brand, its brand of enalapril is about 50 percent more economical.

Prescription products like enalapril should be taken only with doctor’s advice. For more information on Pascual’s brand of enalapril, text HYP MESSAGE to 0920-9618126.
