PLDT dominates fixed broadband business
MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) continued to dominate the fixed broadband business, accounting for over 70 percent of the market in the first-half amid new digital services.
In a statement, PLDT said it strengthened its leadership in the fixed broadband business through its home digital services provider PLDT Home.
As of end-June, the total number of PLDT Home fixed broadband customers reached 1.2 million.
Ariel Fermin, PLDT executive vice president and head of consumer business group said PLDT Home remains to be the preferred broadband provider given its digital services and offerings.
“PLDT Home’s fixed broadband has continuously maintained its industry leadership with its significant array of new digital services and compelling content, providing entertainment to customers everywhere, whether they are at home or away from home,” he said.
The introduction of Quadplay, a bundling offer where mobile services are packaged with voice, data, and cable television, has likewise contributed to further cementing PLDT’s position in the fixed broadband market.
“With Quadplay, we are once more leveraging our integrated approach to connectivity as our data, voice, and Cignal over fiber services are packaged with a mobile bundle. This further solidifies our leadership in the broadband market,” Fermin said.
PLDT also forged a partnership with global entertainment company Fox International Channels to provide PLDT Home and Smart customers access to subscription video-on-demand as well as live shows and catch-up television on the various Fox channels.
With content seen as key to drive higher broadband usage, PLDT also expects revenues from the fixed broadband business to grow.
As of the first semester, PLDT’s revenues from the fixed broadband business reached P7.77 billion, up 14 percent from P6.84 billion in the same period a year ago.
