Balingasag power plant construction now in full swing
MANILA, Philippines - After logging more than one million safe man-hours or “zero accidents” since the start of construction, the Balingasag thermal power plant of Minergy Coal Corp.(Minergy Coal) in Misamis Oriental is now 42.1-percent complete and set for its targeted inauguration in 2017.
Composed of 55-MW coal-fired power units, the project will feed the power requirements of Cagayan de Oro Electric Power and Light Corp. (Cepalco), whose franchise area covers the City of Cagayan de Oro and adjacent municipalities.
Minergy Coal is 40 percent owned by Vivant Integrated Generation Corp. (VIGC) together with Mindanao Energy Systems Inc. (Minergy). VIGC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Vivant Energy Corp. which, in turn, is 100 percent owned by publicly-listed Vivant Corp.
During simple ceremonies Monday, project proponents marked a special milestone in the power plant’s construction phase. Minergy Coal was cited for its safety record of “zero-accidents” as of Jan. 31, 2015.
Gracing the event were Balingasag Mayor Alexis Quina and executives of Minergy, Vivant Corp., Cepalco, Mitsubishi Corp., Toshiba, Metaphil and Sta. Clara International.
