Meralco sees power rate hike in October

MANILA, Philippines - Manila Electric Company (Meralco) announced that electricity rates will increase by around P0.10 per kilowatthour (kWh) on October.
Due to the power rate hike, an average household's bill would increase by P20 for this month.
The power company said that electricity rates would have decreased by P0.05 per kWh if not for the P0.159 per kWh generation charge increase brought upon by alternative use of fuel from natural gas plants in Santa Rita and San Lorenzo.
Though generation charges increased, Meralco noted that electricity from Power Supply Agreements decreased by P0.01 kWh. Transmission charge and subsidies and system loss charge also decreased by P0.054 per kWh and P0.008 per kWh, respectively.
During September, electricity rates went down by P0.58 per kWh.
