Bermudez resigns as PVB president

MANILA, Philippines - After a year as president and chief executive officer of Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB), Joey Bermudez has quit his post to resume his commitment as chairman and chief executive officer of Maybridge Financial Group.

His resignation takes effect on Sept. 1, he said.

Bermudez said his first passion was social enterprise, the reason for the formation of Maybridge. Likewise, his family now resides in Canada, the same base of operations of Maybridge.

 “Much of what I sought to do when I started the engagement has been achieved and it is now time to return to my core interest: social enterprise,” he said in an open email to colleagues.

PVB chairman Roberto de Ocampo, in a statement, announced that Bermudez resigned to join his entire family living in Canada.

 “Joey and I were aware, when I invited him to be our president, that his personal circumstances could pose a challenge.  Thus I can’t thank him enough for nevertheless accepting my offer of PVB’s presidency and head the critical and difficult task of its reinvigoration.”

De Ocampo lauded Bermudez for reinvigorating the commercial bank in a short period of time.

 “He leaves on a high note with a PVB that he has helped to put back on track at a strategic period of its history,” De Ocampo said. “We now have a bank that has laid the foundations of good governance, and is well on its way to financial strength and the respect of the community.”
