Fluor Corp marks 100th year

-

MANILA, Philippines - Fluor Corp. marked its 100th anniversary of business with a major employee celebration event held this past weekend at 14 locations around the world. The global event was broadcast live from Dallas, Texas near the company’s headquarters. The centennial event brought together 20,000 employees on six different continents — the most ever in the company’s history.

“Fluor’s centennial year in 2012 marks a truly unique milestone that a majority of companies never reach,” said David Seaton, Fluor’s chairman and chief executive officer. “Fluor’s 100-year legacy includes partnering with many of the world’s largest industrial enterprises to design and build some of the most complex and challenging capital projects that help increase quality of life and living standards.”

“But Fluor’s anniversary celebration is more about reflecting on our past. It’s about realizing what the future has in store for our great company. It’s about meeting the needs of our customers around the world and making the communities in which we work better places.”

Fluor has been active in the Philippines for 25 years with offices in Manila and Cebu. More than 2,100 professionals are based in the Philippines, working primarily on capital projects for the oil and gas, chemicals, power, and mining and metals industries.

“This event was a singular opportunity to reflect on our values that have contributed to our success and which have also allowed us to become an active corporate member of the Manila and Cebu communities through our employees’ community involvement and investments,” said Dan Spinks, Fluor vice president and general manager. “Our employees are Fluor’s greatest value and here in the Philippines, we are truly excited to celebrate this significant corporate anniversary.”

Later this year, Fluor will celebrate its 25th anniversary of working in the Philippines since it opened its first office here in 1987.

The company was originally founded as a general contracting business by Swiss immigrant John Simon (Si) Fluor in 1912.

A century after Si Fluor opened the doors to his humble construction company in southern California, Fluor has grown into one of the world’s largest engineering, procurement, construction, maintenance and project management companies in the world.

Fluor expanded into the petroleum industry during the peak of the California oil boom in the late 1910s, and by 1924, the company had grown to 100 employees and entered the refinery construction industry in California. In the following decades, Fluor expanded its business internationally, performing oil and gas projects in the Middle East and opened new offices in Europe and Australia.

By the 1970s, Fluor became known for delivering multibillion-dollar epic projects, often in remote locations throughout the world.

Fluor Corporation is North America’s largest publicly-traded engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance company with 45,000 employees on six continents..

Today, Fluor continues to serve clients in a wide variety of industries, including chemicals and petrochemicals; commercial and institutional; government services; life sciences; manufacturing; microelectronics; mining; oil and gas; power, including renewable energy; and transportation infrastructure.
