PCCI inks MOU to enhance IPR in Mindanao
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) to enhance the promotion of intellectual property rights (IPR) in Mindanao.
IPOPHL has likewise signed a MOU with the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Industry and Energy, Research and Development (NorMinCIERD) that will promote the effective utilization of the Intellectual Property System among its members and other members of the scientific community. Relative to this, a Patent Drafting Seminar for faculty members, scientists, and researchers was held on Jan. 27-28, 2011.
The signing of the MOU with these regional partners hopes to pave the way for the generation of more IP filings from Region X.
The protection of intellectual property (patents, trademarks and copyright) is one of the keys to a successful business. Registration of an invention, innovation, design or brand gives the owner recognition and control over the commercialization of his intellectual property.
IPOPHL has launched its eighth satellite office in Cagayan de Oro City. The launch was held at Region X headquarters of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Ricardo R. Blancaflor, IPOPHL director general and Alicia V. Euseña, DTI regional director graced the event. Representatives from the business sector, academe, inventors, research and development institutions (RDIs), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and other stakeholders attended said occasion.
IPOPHL has previously opened seven other branches: Baguio City, Angeles City, Legazpi City, Iloilo City, Cebu City, Davao City and General Santos City. These satellite offices accept applications for trademark (brand names) and patent for inventions, utility models and industrial designs.
