Government, private sector to provide livelihood activities for youth

- Ma. Elisa Osorio  -

MANILA, Philippines - The government and the private sector have teamed up to provide livelihood activities for the youth.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Philippine Council of Students in Intrapreneurship (PCSI) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to formalize their agreement to collaborate in implementing projects that provide livelihood opportunities to the youth.

The partnership is looking at augmenting DOLE’s ongoing program Youth Entrepreneurship Support Project (YES Project). The aim of YES is to empower the youth through entrepreneurial skills development.

“Through collaboration we can leverage on each other’s strength; thus, the project’s (YES Project) failure rate is reduced”, Trade Undersecretary for the Regional Operations Development Group, Merly Cruz said.

In implementing the Yes Project, the cooperating agencies mutually agreed to delineate the tasks. DOLE, the lead agency, will be responsible in providing funds for the project.

The other government agency, DTI, is tasked to provide technical assistance in developing the entrepreneurial skills of the youth beneficiaries. The technical assistance comes in the form of business consultancy, provision of trainors for skill and entrepreneurial trainings, product development and marketing assistance.

The Non-Government Organization -Philippine Council of Students in Intrapreneurship-is tasked to facilitate the identification, screening and organization of youth beneficiaries.

Business projects to be undertaken by the youth beneficiaries must be mutually agreed upon by all parties.
