3M launches RP's first handheld digital projector

-

Leading technology solutions provider 3M Philippines has joined the mobile bandwagon as it unveiled the country’s first handheld, and the world’s smallest, digital projector.

“3M has been at the forefront of projection technology for more than 40 years. By harnessing this expertise, we have created the breakthrough product that is 3M MPro 110,” 3M Philippines sales and marketing manager Bettina Luz said.

3M, which points to corporate printing as one of the reasons why 30 million acres of forests are being cut down annually to produce paper, expects mobile projecting to lessen the need for print-outs in meetings inside or outside the office.

3M is known for bringing to the world the first stain-repellant chemical (Scotchgard), the first clear tape (Scotch tape), the first scrubbing pad (Scotch Brite), and the first repositionable note (Post-It). The company has more than 55,000 products sold in 200 countries, with 45,000 patents issued and pending worldwide. It invests about $1 billion yearly for research and development.

3M Philippines, 3M’s 26th subsidiary, has a manufacturing plant in Carmona, Cavite that converts tapes and adhesives and produces decals and graphic designs.

Weighing as little as three packs of gum or around 152 grams and roughly the size of a digital camera or about 4.5 inches in length and 1.97 inches and width, the new product is expected to be a boon for mobile professionals.

Company officials emphasized that advertising executives, pharmaceutical representatives, and other mobile professionals can now leave behind their bulky projectors at the boardroom and carry instead this mobile plug-and-play projector wherever they go.

3M also expects the new product to be patronized by real estate agents, engineers, architects, graphic artists, film makers, and gadget lovers, among others.

They pointed out that the new product is powered by a patented 3M mobile projection engine with image throws of up to 50 inches in size. When attached to laptops, DVD players, or iPods via an integrated VGA input, 3M MPro 110 projects images or videos in true VGA resolution, no-speckle and a high-fill factor, they added.
