BOI okays P118.5-M auto parts proj

The Board of Investments (BOI) has approved the P118.5-million project of Philippine Auto Components Inc. (PACI) which plans to produce a new generation of car instrument cluster, and parts and components in the country.

PACI is a 97.3-percent Singaporean and 2.7-percent Japanese firm registered under the Securities and Exchange Commission that is engaged in the manufacture, buying, selling (on wholesale basis), distributing, installing, designing, servicing, importing and exporting of products and spare parts for automobiles, buses, trucks, motorcycles.

PACI already manufactures radiators, fuel pumps and instrument clusters composed of various kinds of meters and gauges such as speedometers, tachometers, fuel gauges and temperature gauges.

PACI is establishing a new production line/facility to manufacture instrument cluster and related parts and components such as dials, printed circuit boards, and case for motor vehicles.

PACI will manufacture a new generation of instrument cluster using the stepper motor for metering the speedometer, tachometer and other gauge needed to monitor the vehicle’s status and performance.

PACI’s new generation instrument cluster features a new generation of LED (light emitting diode) to replace bulbs for meter illumination which makes it more compact and accurate.

At full capacity, the facility located at Camelray Industrial Park in Laguna will annually produce 400,000 sets of instruments and 350,000 units of parts and components.

All of its production is for export.

Trade and Industry Secretary Peter B. Favila welcomed the entrance of the new facility which plans to hire an additional 126 personnel.

According to Favila, "the investment will boost the country’s attractiveness to the manufacturing and export business especially in the motor vehicles sector."
