MANILA, Philippines — The operation of closed-circuit television or CCTV cameras at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport was turned over to the San Miguel Corp.-led New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC) yesterday.

This came after Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon issued a directive to fast-track the transfer of CCTV operations from the Manila International Airport Authority, after a delay of almost two years.

Dizon said all the 2,100 cameras installed across the NAIA complex are now under the operational control of NNIC.

“In the event of an incident, there are already established protocols in place – what to do with the footage, how to conduct an investigation to quickly pinpoint the perpetrator and how to immediately coordinate with law enforcement,” Dizon said.

“Hopefully, this will speed things up and serve as deterrent to those who might be planning any wrongdoing,” he added.

Dizon said the NNIC would develop an integration plan to incorporate the newly transferred CCTV cameras into its existing airport security and operations systems.

He added that the airport complex would undergo reassessment to identify any remaining blind spots that may require additional CCTV coverage.
