Globe Telecom now 3G operator

Globe Telecom is now officially a Philippine 3G (third generation mobile technology) operator after the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) awarded the company its license to operate yesterday.

The NTC shall assign to Globe 10 megahertz (MHz) of the allocated 3G spectrum.

"We are bullish about this new development in our company as we get ready to provide the 3G applications that would greatly benefit our valued customers. This year, we extensively worked on our 3G offering. Globe has successfully completed its first 3G video calls in July and has complied with all the NTC’s 3G requirements by October," Globe senior vice president for corporate and regulatory affairs Rodolfo A. Salalima said.

The 3G technology allows fast transmission speeds that make high bandwidth applications such as video calls and video streaming possible. Browsing the Internet and downloading large files would be fast when using 3G, as this technology offers full mobility, richer experience and greater convenience to customers.

Having been granted the right to operate 3G, Globe will begin offering the service very soon, the next landmark in the evolution of cellular technology.
