HSBC bares new CEO for RP

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corp. Ltd. has announced the appointment of Warner Manning as chief executive officer Philippines effective November 2002, subject to local regulatory approvals. Manning will also assume the position of chairman of HSBC Savings Bank (Philippines) Inc.

Paul Lawrence, the current chief executive officer Philippines, will take up the position of chief executive officer Singapore, in January 2003, subject to regulatory approvals.

Manning, who is currently chief executive officer Brunei, has been with HSBC Group for 20 years, holding various positions in finance, IT, planning, corporate banking and personal financial services.

He started his career as an accountant after graduating with an honors degree in Business Management in 1976. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and an associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.

Manning’s experience with KPMG management consultants brought him to Hong Kong in 1980 and to HongkongBank in 1982. He started as finance director of the group’s property company for three years.

His involvement in information technology progressed in 1986 when he held the position as manager technical services in HongkongBank, Hong Kong. From 1987 to 1991 as manager group information strategy, he was in charge of strategic planning and the development of HSBC Group’s information technology strategy.
