Yazaki-Torres posts robust sales

While local car manufacturers are not yet experiencing a resurgence in local sales, the car industry elsewhere appears to be booming as reflected in the robust export sales of Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing Inc. (YTMI) which produces automotive wiring harness.

For its fiscal year 2001 to 2002, YTMI reported sales of P7.8 billion up from its sales for the previous fiscal year.

According to Feliciano Torres, president of YTMI, YTMI is investing another P1.3 billion to increase its production capacity.

The additional investment, Torres said, would result in additional employment for 4,000 workers on top of YTMI’s current workforce of 6,000 employes.

YTMI’s manufacturing plant is located in Calamba, Laguna.

YTMI is registered with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), entitling it to incentives such as income tax holiday and duty-free importation of capital equipment.

YTMI’s customers include Toyota, Ford, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Honda and Nissan.

It is the biggest manufacturer of automotive wiring harness with a capacity of 85,000 man hours a month which is equivalent to about 75,000 vehicles a month.

YTMI has expanded its production capacity at least 10 times in the past 24 years. – Marianne Go
