Shell Phils. Exploration BV has new managing director

-
Shell Philippines Exploration B.V. (SPEX) announced yesterday that Jeremy Cliff, 46, will be its new managing director beginning April 1, 2002. He replaces David J. Greer.

Cliff brings with him years of management experience and expertise gained while serving as adviser and shareholder representative of Shell International for Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, and as a senior manager for Shell in a number of West African operations. All of this, in his opinion, has been good training for his role in the Philippines.

Cliff said he is aware of his priorities at this early state. "(SPEX) is moving from a project delivery organization to one of a stable and reliable producer. My challenge is also to help grow (the) natural gas (industry) within the Philippines, because gas is both an indigenous resource and the cleanest fuel available," Cliff said when asked to defined his goals for SPEX.

It is also his goal to make the most of the Malampaya ‘oil rim’ which underlies the Malampaya gas, as well as exploring selectively for other hydrocarbon deposits in the Philippines that can be commercially produced."

An Englishman, Cliff graduated with two Masters degrees – one in Physics from Oxford University in England, and one in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland.

He succeeds Greer who exits from SPEX amidst the applause and the admiration of his colleagues and industry observers, having earned a number of outstanding achievements during his four-year term with SPEX from 1998-2002 in developing the upstream component of the Malampaya Deep Water Gas to Power project. Greer will be heading a new exploration and production business unit in Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies’ offices in The Hague, The Netherlands.
