Intel Philippines disclosed yesterday its plan to invest additional P4 to P5 billion this year at its state-of-the-art Cavite facility for Intels Pentium 4 microprocessors made on the latest 0.13 micron technology and other microprocessors on Intels 300 mm wafer fab technology.
With this, the total Intel investment in the Philippines would amount to approximately P67.6 billion. As part of the plan, Intel will consolidate its operations in Cavite to make it one of Intels lowest-cost operations, further boosting its global competitiveness.
Intel Philippines general manager Robin Martin said this plan will make the Philippine site Intels largest microprocessor and flash assembly and test factory, and will be a solid foundation for the facilitys long-term growth.
Martin stressed that Intel continues to bring its latest technologies and products into the Philippines, including the fastest Pentium 4 microprocessor. The investments will be largely used to support the Pentium 4 ramp. The Philippines was also the first assembly and test factory in Intel to introduce products on 0.13-micron and 300 mm wafer fab technologies. Additionally, it is also Intels largest producer of mobile Pentium III processor-M. As part of this transition, Intel will phase out manufacturing of its older legacy products.
In addition to being a world-class manufacturer, Intel is committed to expand technology development capacity in the Philippines. This includes product design, assembly technology development, test technology development, and additional product engineering ownership.
Intel Philippines has been the countrys top exporter for the last five years. The company has received numerous awards from various government bodies. Most recently, the Philippine Quality Award from the Department of Trade and Industry, and the Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan Award (GKK) from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), for manufacturing excellence and safety performance, respectively.
Intel continues to be socially responsible corporate citizen by playing a lead role in science and technology education initiatives in the country. Its total contribution in this area has reached P260 million for the last five years.
Intel remains committed to the Philippines as a favorable investment location due to its 27 years of excellent manufacturing performance, made possible through the quality of its workforce.
