'We deserve honest public servants': Kris Aquino open to DOH appointment

MANILA, Philippines — Kris Aquino said she would be open to being appointed to the Department of Health (DOH) if given the opportunity, provided her health improves.

During her guest appearance on her friend Boy Abunda’s talk show, “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” Kris shared how her personal experience battling autoimmune diseases has given her insights into the country’s healthcare system and the changes she believes could help patients.

Kris, who continues to undergo treatment, acknowledged that her current health condition prevents her from taking on such a responsibility.

“Yes, but I’m not healthy. My dad had always… parang 'yun ang akala nung dad ko para sa akin but we need a miracle. Hindi ibibigay ang lahat,” she said.

“But ako, if ever, sana ma-appoint na kung sino man ang mahahalal na maging ano DOH [appointee] kasi sa experience ko,” she added.

Kris also cited the high cost of medicines as an issue she would want to address if given the opportunity to serve in government.

“Alam nilang hindi ako magnanakaw and 'yung mapababa lang ang cost ng gamot, ang laking bagay na. Maybe by not taxing the importation of medicine so high, we can already make it so affordable,” she said.

The television personality also stressed the need for honest public servants, saying government appointees should be people whom the public believes have managed their finances responsibly.

“Feel ko kasi talaga na dapat ang mga na-appoint 'yung alam ng taong may natabing pera na. Wala po akong sinasabi at pinariringgan ngayon but I would think we deserve honest public servants,” she said.

Aquino clarified that her remarks were not directed at any particular person.
