OPM and global acts share the stage at first LaLaLa Fest Manila
MANILA, Philippines — Original Pilipino Music (OPM) artists took center stage at the first-ever LaLaLa Fest Manila, held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City on Aug. 21.
Alternative rock band fitterkarma kicked off the local lineup as the first Filipino act to perform at the music festival, following performances by international artists Kiki, Hoa and Isyana Sarasvati.
“Mabuhay ang OPM, hanggang kamatayan! Maraming salamat! Buhay na buhay ang musikang Pilipino dahil sa inyo,” the band said before performing its hit song, Pag-Ibig ay Kanibalismo II.
OPM bands Dilaw and Over October gave fans all the feels as they wrapped up their first LaLaLa Fest performances with their respective hits, Uhaw and Ikot. Saan hitmaker Maki also surprised fans by bringing out singer-actor James Reid for their Tagalog-English love song, Luck.
Loud cheers erupted when Matthew Ifield performed his viral hit, I Think They Call This Love. Meanwhile, British R&B girl group FLO, composed of Jorja Douglas, Stella Quaresma and Renée Downer, delivered a fiery performance during its first visit to the country.
Award-winning nine-piece folk-pop band Ben&Ben was the last Filipino act to take the stage, performing crowd favorites, including Leaves.
Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy and Irish indie-rock band Two Door Cinema Club kept the crowd’s energy high as they performed Lost and What You Know, respectively.
American singer-songwriter Steve Lacy, best known for his hit song Bad Habit and Oh Yeah?, which was featured in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” closed the festival as its headlining act.
During his performance, Lacy revealed how special his Manila show was after meeting his Filipino relatives from his father’s side for the first time.
“So I met the whole family for the first time, and they’re here tonight with us somewhere around here. My sisters and my brother, my nephews and my nieces, they’re all here. It’s a really special show for me, and yeah, I’m happy you guys are here,” he said onstage.
Presented by Wilbros Live, the first-ever LaLaLa Fest Manila brought together local and international acts for a night filled with live music.
