Niño Muhlach admits falling asleep, fault in road accident

MANILA, Philippines — Actor Niño Muhlach has taken full responsibility for the recent vehicular accident in Antipolo involving his vehicle, admitting that he fell asleep while driving due to exhaustion from his demanding schedule.
In an official statement posted on Facebook, Muhlach clarified that he had not previously issued a personal statement regarding the incident.
“The initial information released stating the crash was caused by mechanical failure was based solely on the preliminary findings of the police investigation, not from my own words,” he said.
Muhlach stressed that he wanted to set the record straight and be completely honest about what happened.
“I want to be completely clear and honest: The accident was entirely my fault,” he said.
According to the veteran actor, he was driving himself when the accident occurred because it happened on a Sunday, his regular driver’s scheduled day off.
“Due to extremely demanding and exhausting schedule, I fell asleep behind wheels. Because the incident occurred on a Sunday, my regular driver was on his scheduled day-off, and I was driving myself,” Muhlach explained.
He acknowledged that fatigue was not an excuse for what happened.
“While fatigue overtook me, that is no excuse. Falling asleep at the wheel led directly to hitting a pedestrian and damaging nearby establishments,” he said.
Muhlach said he is prepared to take full responsibility, both personally and legally, for the consequences of the accident.
“I take full personal and legal responsibility for what happened,” he stated.
He also said his immediate priority is the welfare of the pedestrian who was hit in the incident.
“My priority right now is ensuring that the affected individual receives all necessary care, support and medical assistance and that all damages caused to the properties and establishments are fully compensated and rectified,” he said.
Muhlach expressed his remorse to the victim and everyone affected by the accident. The actor also assured the public that he is cooperating with authorities as the matter is being resolved.
“I am deeply sorry to the victim, their family, and everyone affected by my negligence. I am fully cooperating with authorities as this matter is being resolved,” he added.
