OPM band Android-18 enters new chapter with UY Records management deal

MANILA, Philippines — OPM pop-punk/pop-rock band Android-18 is entering a new chapter after signing a management contract with UY Records and Entertainment (UYRE), headed by Tim Uy.

The partnership was formalized during a contract signing and media conference in Mandaluyong City on August 15, ahead of the band's performance that evening.

During the media conference, the members also talked about the story behind the band's name, which is often associated with the popular “Dragon Ball Z” character.

The group originally wanted a female name for the band as a way of giving importance to a female member. That idea eventually became more meaningful with the addition of vocalist Gela Quevedo.

The members also wanted a number in the band's name, inspired by groups such as Matchbox Twenty, Blink-182 and Filipino band Moonstar88.

Thus, Android-18 was born.

While the name is familiar to fans of the anime franchise, the band has since established its own identity in the local pop-punk scene.

Formed in Rizal in 2011, Android-18 is composed of Gela Quevedo on vocals, Niokz Arcega, Koy Quevedo and Mark Mendoza on guitars, Kevs Ortillo on bass and Ian Moral on drums.

The band has built a following through energetic live shows, catchy melodies and songs that resonate with its listeners.

Among its popular tracks are “Teleserye,” “Alanganin,” “KSP,” “Sentimental” and “Langit.”

The group has surpassed 2 million streams on Spotify, with more than 55,000 monthly listeners and over 40,000 Facebook followers.

Android-18 has also earned recognition throughout its career, including the Muzikademy Championship in 2012, a spot representing the Greater Manila Area at Red Horse Muziklaban 2012, and the Best Live Act award at the Philippine Indie Rock Awards in 2015.

The band has performed in various parts of the Philippines and expanded its reach overseas, holding its first international performance in Taiwan in 2025.

The new management partnership comes as Android-18 works on its next album.

The band is currently recording its third full-length album following a brief hiatus.

With UYRE now handling its management, the group hopes to reach more listeners in the Philippines and abroad.

Its international plans will continue in September when Android-18 heads to Thailand for a performance alongside fellow Filipino rock band Mayonnaise, under Yellow Room Music Philippines.

The label's roster also includes Filipino acts such as Soapdish, Hilera and Sud.

For Android-18, the new partnership signals another step forward for a band that has spent more than a decade building its place in the OPM pop-punk scene.
