MANILA, Philippines — Award-winning actor John Arcilla expressed frustration toward voters who continue to support politicians whom he accused of being involved in corruption, saying their choices could have serious consequences for ordinary Filipinos.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, August 18, John shared a video showing a commuter riding a bus amid flooding caused by continuous rains brought by the southwest monsoon, or Habagat, on Monday, August 17.

John used the footage to question the priorities of voters who continue to support their political idols despite allegations of corruption.

“Marami nang namatay na kababayan natin sa baha. Mas importante ba talaga 'yung tigas ng ulo ninyo na bumoto ng mga IDOL nyo DAHIL GUSTO NYO LANG kahit KURAKOT, kaysa buhay ng mga kababayan natin?” he said.

The actor criticized what he described as the continued support for politicians accused of misusing public funds, saying that those allegedly responsible for stealing from government coffers continue to live comfortably while ordinary Filipinos struggle.

“Maayos ang buhay ng mga NAGNANAKAW ng pondo ng bayan, inuuto na kayo sila pa din ang PINIPILI ninyo,” he said.

John acknowledged that some people who speak out on public issues, including celebrities and other public figures, may be living relatively comfortable lives.

However, he stressed that this should not prevent them from calling for accountability and demanding that taxpayers’ money be used for its intended purpose, particularly for the safety and welfare of the public.

“Pero ayaw nyo maniwala at makinig. Pwede naman kaming manahimik na lang at panoorin kayong nalulunod sa baha pero hindi kami nag-sasawa sa pagpapaalala,” he said.

He continued to urge voters to be more discerning when choosing their leaders, particularly those entrusted with public funds meant for disaster prevention and public safety.

“Kung mas pinipili ninyong mag-hikahos at lumubog sa Baha, sige BOTO LANG NG BOTO ng mga MAGNANAKAW NG PONDO na dapat ay para sa kaligtasan ninyo at sana ng buong bayan,” he added.

John has been vocal about social and political issues, often using his social media platforms to express his views on matters affecting Filipinos.
