Sharon Cuneta backs daughter Kakie’s acting debut in ‘Edjop’
MANILA, Philippines — Megastar Sharon Cuneta is throwing her full support behind her daughter Kakie Pangilinan as she makes her acting debut in the upcoming biopic “Edjop.”
Sharon recently took to Instagram to announce the project, which tells the life story of renowned student activist Edgar “Edjop” Jopson. Kakie will portray Jopson’s wife in the film.
“My Kakie’s first movie!!! Hope you can all support it. Thank you!” Sharon wrote.
The film’s team is taking a different approach to promoting “Edjop,” going beyond the usual premiere night, press conferences and other entertainment events.
According to Sharon, they looked at Jopson’s life and his approach to organizing as inspiration for their promotional campaign.
“He was one of the most impactful youth organizers of the time. Ang simple ng galaw niya. Dumirecho ka sa kailangan mo makausap at pakinggan. ‘Make your case direct to your audience,’” Sharon said.
As part of the campaign, the filmmakers will visit various schools to talk directly with students about the film and Jopson’s story.
“Iikot kami sa iba’t ibang schools para makipag-kwentuhan sa inyo. Kayo ang number one inspiration ng pelikulang ito,” Sharon said.
The campus tour will focus on Jopson’s life as a student who chose to become involved in the issues of his time.
“Pupuntahan namin kayo para ikuwento ang buhay ng isang estudyanteng piniling makialam, tumayo at hindi sumuko. Higit sa lahat, hindi nawalan ng pag-asa,” she added.
Sharon is also set to join the film’s promotional activities, including the planned school visits.
The actress added that they want the project to open conversations with young audiences, particularly at a time when they believe hope is needed.
“Feeling namin, pag-asa ang isa sa mga pinaka-kailangan natin ngayon. Lalo na ng mga kabataan,” she said.
She also invited students to share their thoughts and experiences during the campus discussions.
“So gusto rin namin kayo pakinggan. Safe space ’to. Pramis,” she said.
