MANILA, Philippines — Jeongyeon of the girl group Twice has left JYP Entertainment, which formed the K-pop girl group over a decade ago.

Jeongyeon announced her departure from JYP by posting a handwritten letter on her Instagram account, writing the same letter in the post's caption in both Korean and English.

The singer called JYP her "second home since her teenage years." She attempted to first join the label as a child and succeeded in 2010, and trained for five years before Twice officially debuted.

"[JYP is] a place where I've spent so much time and created so many cherished memories. I am now preparing to start a new chapter in a new place," she said. "Leaving a place that feels so familiar to me was daunting at first, but I was able to find the courage thanks to [fellow] members and our Once (fans) who have always believed in me."

Jeongyeon expressed gratitude to her fellow Twice members, fans of the group, and to her companions in JYP "who helped her grow into the person she is today."

The singer assured fans that while she is leaving the agency, she will remain a member of Twice as the group is still her first priority.

"I will prepare step by step with all my heart — both for my journey as Twice's Jeongyeon, whom you have loved so much, and for the new challenges ahead as Yoo Jeong-yeon," said the artist, teasing solo projects may be on the horizon for her.

Jeongyeon ended her letter reiterating her gratitude for colleagues and supporters, "Since we still have so much time ahead of us to create new memories, I will work hard to fill those moments even more beautifully with Once. Thank you always."

Not long after Jeongyeon's revelation, another agency, Varo Entertainment, announced that she had signed with them. She joins a roster that includes Byeon Woo-seok, Jin Goo, Lee Chae-min, and Jeongyeon's older sister, Gong Seung-yeon.

Varo praised Jeongyeon's "diverse charms and limitless potential" upon announcing her, adding that the label resonates with her authentic attitude and sincerity.

"With the global presence Jeongyeon has built over a long time as an artist as foundation," it continued, "we will become a reliable partner who provides unwavering support in various ways so that she can take on new challenges as an actress while also continuing her group activities smoothly."

Outside of Twice, Jeongyeon has released a cover of "O Christmas Tree," hosted YouTube talk show "Inspector," and covered "Takedown" for "KPop Demon Hunters" alongside fellow members Jihyo and Chaeyoung.

Jeongyeon will make her acting debut in a movie spin-off of the television series "New Recruit."
