When Laufey dined Filipino on visit to Chef JP Anglo’s restaurant

MANILA, Philippines — Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Laufey continued to immerse herself in Filipino culture as she visited Chef JP Anglo’s restaurant, where she sampled a variety of dishes that highlight the richness of Philippine cuisine.
During her recent but undated visit, the acclaimed artist was welcomed by Chef JP , who introduced her to Filipino flavors through a selection of carefully prepared dishes.
The dining experience began with a playful preview, as Laufey was given clues about the dishes she would soon taste. Her curiosity grew as each hint was revealed, but her reaction became especially noticeable when halo-halo was mentioned, sparking an immediate response from the singer.
"Thank God. I have been trying to get halo-halo for so long, but like, because it melts, so it's like the timing never works out. It's perfect," she said.
Before moving on to dessert, Laufey enjoyed a selection of Filipino favorites, including kinilaw, chicharon, lumpia, and smoked milkfish. Her curiosity grew when the bangus a la pobre was served and she learned that the dish featured milkfish, prompting a more attentive reaction as she prepared to try the local specialty.
"We're very serious about our fish in Iceland. This is so delicious. It's so rich, but in such a delightful way. I can't believe that's, like, is it the belly part that I had that was a little, like, fatty?" she said.
"I'm going to taste everything and then I'm going to go in on my favorites. I feel like that's the best way to go about it usually," she said, right before diving into isaw, or chicken intestines,” she added.
Laufey said isaw was not an entirely unfamiliar concept. She shared that in Iceland, consuming different parts of an animal is also a traditional practice, making the Filipino street food concept more relatable from a cultural perspective.
"The smoky taste is so good. In Iceland, we eat every single part of the sheep. Like, every part of the sheep. And I have eaten every part of the sheep," she said.
Then the halo-halo arrived and Laufey celebrated.
"I feel like this is a celebration. This is like a beacon of Filipino food. It's so delicious. I'm like in the audience right now. Wow. Thank you. I'm on my feet clapping," she said.
The singer has previously shown appreciation for Filipino food and culture, making her restaurant visit another memorable moment for fans in the country. Her willingness to explore local flavors has been warmly received by Filipino audiences, who have enjoyed following her experiences beyond the stage.
