‘Lilo & Stitch,’ ‘The Ring’ star Daveigh Chase cause of death unveiled

MANILA, Philippines — A medical examiner has ruled that former child actress Daveigh Chase had died from acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, more commonly known as AIDS, among other conditions like chronic polysubstance use.
Chase died last June 16, a month shy of her 36th birthday, in a hospital and her passing was listed as a natural death.
Her death was announced by boyfriend Roy Hernandez, who initially said Chase’s body shut down due to meningitis complications and an infection in her blood that caused “septic issues.”
The actress began acting when she was young, appearing in shows like “Sabrina, The Teenage Witch,” “Charmed,” “The Practice” and “ER,” which led to her big break as the sister of Jake Gyllenhaal’s titular character in “Donnie Darko.”
She is probably best known for voicing Lilo in 2002’s “Lilo & Stitch,” a role that won her the Annie Award for Outstanding Voice Acting in an Animated Feature and subsequently reprised in other projects.
That same year, Chase voiced the English-language dub of “Spirited Away” and played Samara Morgan in the American remake of “The Ring,” the latter becoming an iconic movie villain in pop culture.
Chase also starred in the series “Big Love” and several independent films before withdrawing from the public eye. Since then, the actress reportedly dealt with drug addiction, homelessness and several police arrests.
