MANILA, Philippines — Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan on Wednesday, June 4, announced that Chinese superstar Zhang Linghe has been officially invited to visit Manila, according to reports.

Jing Quan said the invitation has been extended to Linghe but details such as the exact schedule have yet to be disclosed.

Philstar.com has reached out to the Chinese Embassy in Manila for confirmation and additional details regarding the reported invitation, but it has yet to respond as of press time.

The 28-year-old actor rose to international fame after headlining the 2026 wuxia hit “Pursuit of Jade,” alongside Tian Xiwei, a Chinese historical romance and political drama. He played fallen war hero Marquis Xie Zheng, while Tian portrayed Fan Changyu, a fiercely independent butcher’s daughter. The series continues to enjoy global traction even months after its finale.

Beyond “Pursuit of Jade,” Zhang has built an extensive acting portfolio, starring in “Sparkle Love” (2020), “Love Crossed” (2021), “Flourish in Time” (2021), “Love Between Fairy and Devil” (2021), “My Journey to You” (2023), “The Princess Royal” (2024), “The Best Thing” (2025), “Our Generation” (2025), among others.

He has also built a significant digital following, with 5.1 million followers on Instagram.

Linghe also has two major upcoming dramas in the pipeline: “Overdo,” a Republican-era romance with Wang Churan, and “The Road to Glory,” a historical romance opposite Lin Yun. Both projects are slated for release on platforms iQIYI and Tencent Video.

His rising popularity has also been marked by intense fan interest at public appearances.

Footage circulating online showed glass doors outside a shopping centre in Nanning, southern China, shattering as fans gathered for his scheduled appearance at a Molsion eyewear event on May 31.

Linghe was expected to attend the brand event but videos showed massive crowds filling the venue and balconies inside the mall, prompting organizers to cancel the in-person appearance and move it online.

In a statement, Linghe's studio said the event had been temporarily rescheduled and apologized for the inconvenience, saying that “everyone’s safety is always our top priority.”

The studio also said it would shoulder travel and accommodation costs for fans who had traveled from afar, while Molsion said it arranged medical check-ups for fans who sustained minor injuries and committed to tightening safety measures for future events.
