Sereno bagong Chief Justice
MANILA, Philippines - Si Associate Justice Ma. Lourdes Punzalan Aranal-Sereno ang itinalaga ni Pangulong Noynoy Aquino bilang bagong Chief Justice ng Korte Suprema.
Sinabi ni Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda na sa gitna ng pagdadalamhati sa pagpanaw ni DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo ay tinupad pa rin ni Pangulong Aquino ang kanyang tungkulin na magtalaga ng bagong chief justice mula sa isinumiteng shortlist ng Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).
Aniya, napili ni PNoy si Associate Justice Sereno bilang ika-24 punong mahistrado ng High Tribunal.
“The President is confident that Chief Justice Sereno will lead the judiciary in undertaking much-needed reforms. We believe the Judicial Branch of government has a historic opportunity to restore our people’s confidence in the judicial system,” wika ni Lacierda.
Sa ilalim ng Konstitusyon ay dapat magtalaga si PNoy ng bagong punong mahistrado bago sumapit ang Agosto 27 deadline matapos mabakante ang posisyon na iniwan ng nai-impeached na si dating Chief Justice Renato Corona.
Si Sereno na 52 anyos lang ay manunungkulan sa loob ng 18 taon.
