Suspension sa 6 Comelec officials ipinatupad na

MANILA, Philippines - Sinimulan nang ipatupad kahapon ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) ang six-month preventive suspension na ipinataw ng Office of the Ombudsman laban sa anim na opisyal ng poll body na isinasangkot sa overpriced na P690M-ballot secrecy folder.

Sinabi ni Comelec Chairman Jose Melo na Huwebes nila natanggap ang kopya ng suspension order at kaagad na ipinatupad kahapon. “Suspension effective today (Friday),” pagtiyak pa ni Melo.

Sa 10-pahinang kautusan ni Ombudsman Ma. Merceditas Gutierrez, kabilang sa mga sinuspinde sina Comelec Executive Director Jose Tolentino Jr.; Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) chairman Atty. Maria Lea Alarkon; at mga miyembro ng BAC na sina Atty. Allen Francis Abaya, Atty. Maria Norina  Casingal, Atty. Martin Niedo, at Antonio Santella.

Ayon sa Ombudsman, nakakita ito ng sapat na ebidensiya na makapagpapatunay na pinaburan ng anim na Comelec officials ang OTC Paper Supply, na siyang magsusuplay sana sa Comelec ng overpriced at magarbong ballot secrecy folder, para sa May 10, 2010 automated elections.

Kaagad namang kinansela ni Melo ang naturang kontrata matapos na matuklasang overpriced ang mga folder at nagkakahalaga ng P380 bawat isa.

Samantala, itinalaga kahapon si Comelec Law Department Director Atty. Ferdinand Rafanan, na siyang nanguna sa imbestigasyon sa anomalya sa kontrata, bilang bagong chairman ng BAC kapalit ng sinuspindeng si Atty. Alarkon.

Makakasama ni Rafanan bilang mga bagong miyembro ng BAC sina Teofisto Elnas, director ng Election Barangay Affairs Department at Region 4 Director Johnny Icaro. (Mer Layson/Doris Franche)
