MANILA, Philippines — The Cebu Eastern College (CEC) has implemented heightened security protocols and assured the public that its campus is secure following a security threat reported earlier Thursday, July 2.

In a statement, the CEC administration said that it is actively addressing the situation in close coordination with local law enforcement and emergency response units.

While the exact details of the threat have not been disclosed due to an ongoing investigation, school officials emphasized that the safety and well-being of the entire campus community remain their absolute priority.

"The administration wishes to assure the families of our students, employees, and all stakeholders that everyone within the institution is safe and secure," the school statement read.

According to reports, the threat was a school shooting from an unknown individual — a trend that has occurred at different schools since the June 22 Tacloban shooting.

A massive contingent of first responders and elite police units was immediately deployed to the campus to secure the perimeter, conduct safety sweeps, and initiate a thorough investigation.

This is not the first shooting threat that occurred on Thursday.

A school in Quezon City also received a shooting threat, prompting the suspension of classes.

However, the Quezon City Police District has verified and confirmed the messages to be false.
