Benguet town dengue cases up 50 percent

TUBA, Benguet, Philippines — The number of dengue cases in this town has increased by 50 percent in the first half of the year, prompting health officials to intensify prevention efforts as the rainy season has started.
Data from the municipal epidemiology and surveillance unit showed 54 dengue cases were recorded from Jan. 4 to June 20, up from 36 cases logged during the same period in 2025.
Among villages, Barangay Camp 4 posted the highest increase with 27 from five last year followed by Camp 3 with eight cases.
Barangay Poblacion posted a decline from eight to six cases.
Health officials said no dengue-related fatalities have been reported so far.
The officials warned that frequent rainfall and stagnant water are creating breeding grounds for mosquitoes, raising the risk of further transmission across the municipality.
Residents have been told to strictly observe measures aimed at preventing the spread of the disease.
