Olympic-bound athletes ready na sa Metz camp

MANILA, Philippines — Hindi na makapaghintay ang walong national athletes na sumabak sa trai­ning camp sa Metz, France para paghandaan ang 2024 Paris Olympic Games sa susunod na buwan.

Ang walo sa 15 Olympic-bound na dumating sa Metz noong Sabado ng umaga ay sina Tokyo Olympics silver medalists Carlo Paalam at Nesthy Petecio ng boxing, Vanes­sa Sarno, Elreen Ando at John Febuar Ceniza ng weightlifting, rower Joanie Delgaco at boxers Aira Villegas at Hergie Bacyadan.

“The first batch of athletes that flew in with us here last Saturday mor­ning are amazed with the fa­cility and are eager to wind up their training for their respective events for the Olympics,” ani Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.

Kaagad na sasalang ang walong atleta sa pag-eensayo sa naturang pasilidad.

“The athletes are exci­ted and enthusiastic about this training camp the main objective of which is to make sure our athletes are in top shape for the com­petitions,” wika ni Chef de Mission Jonvic Remulla.

Ito ang unang pagka­kataon na nagsagawa ang POC ng isang training camp para sa mga Olympic athletes isang buwan bago ang Paris Olympics na nakatakda sa Hulyo 26 hanggang Agosto 11.

“It’s all systems go here at La Moselle,” wika ni Tolentino. “The morale of the team is very high.”

Susunod sa Metz sina Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Eumir Felix Marcial ng boxing, pole vaulter EJ Obiena, fencer Samantha Catantan at gymnasts Carlos Yulo, Emma Mala­buyo at Levi Ruivivar.
