DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines —The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office is now all set to deploy personnel to maintain peace and order and beef up security in various places in the province during the annual observance of Holy Week.
Police chiefs from the 19 towns and six cities in the province, as well as other unit commanders, attended a command conference Thursday to discuss security operations with NOrPPO officer-in-charge director, Sr. Supt. Mariano Natuel Jr.
The security scheme, dubbed as Oplan Semana Santa, entails the deployment of police personnel to places where large crowds are expected, such as churches, bus terminals, sea ports and wharves, tourist destinations and even big shopping malls, Natuel said.
The police will also provide assistance to control traffic during the processions and similar street activities held during the Holy Week, Natuel said, adding that in Dumaguete City, the police have been ordered to conduct at least five random checkpoints daily. (FREEMAN)
