ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Television host and actor Edu Manzano has adopted 56 fishermen in his native town of Concepcion in Iloilo in response to Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr.'s program "Adopt a Fisherman" to help raise fund for 9, 000 small-scale fishermen in Northern Iloilo who lost their livelihood due to recent typhoon Yolanda.
Manzano handed over himself the two checks amounting to P850,000 to the governor at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol over the weekend.
Apart from his personal money, Manzano said the Rotary Club of Makati-South also shared with him the amount when he brought the problem to their attention after he visited Brgy. Polo Piña early last week where most of the houses were washed out.
Manzano said he grew up in Polo Piña, where he spent most of his youth, and he wanted to be part of rebuilding the people's lives especially those fishermen who lost their livelihood.
Defensor thanked Manzano for being a good samaritan, saying that the money can already buy 56 motorboats, which cost P15,000 each. (FREEMAN)
