CEBU, Philippines - A barangay captain was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen yesterday morning at Brgy. Cawayan in Carles, Iloilo.
Reynaldo Bullo, 53, was on his way home onboard his motorcycle at the said village when he was gunned down by the two suspects around 11:00 a.m.
PO3 Johnny Oro, Carles PNP investigator, said Bullo’s barangay secretary, Mario, 54, was with him when the incident happened.
Oro believed that the riding-in-tandem assailants easily tailed the victim because it was the latter’s routine to attend a gathering of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) in Carles at the town proper every Monday.
From the poblacion, the suspects followed Bullo until he reached a feeder road.
As the suspects neared the victim, the back rider then pulled a handgun and shot Bullo.
Oro said Bullo succumbed to a lone gunshot wound on the left side of his body.
According to his secretary, the suspects just targeted Bullo.
When they fell on the pavement, Mario quickly fled on foot.
He also could not give a description of the gunmen because the driver was wearing a helmet while the back rider donned a bonnet.
Investigators have yet to identify the suspects of the killing but are considering personal grudges to be the motive.
Oro explained that Bullo is reportedly a strict barangay official which might have earned him an enemy. (FREEMAN)
