Our Lady of Fatima messages and fulfillment

PERSPECTIVE - Cherry Piquero Ballescas - The Freeman

Our Lady’s apparitions before the three shepherd children in the town of Fatima, Portugal, between May 13 and October 13, 1917 are perhaps among the most memorable and significant until now.

To recall, Mama Mary told Francisco, his sister Jacinta, and their cousin Lucia “to pray the Rosary each day to bring peace to the world and to bring an end to the war, to pray for Russia’s conversion, to do penance, and that God wanted the world to have a devotion to Her Immaculate Heart.”

These are among Mama Mary’s well-remembered Fatima messages:

Daily Rosary: “You will have much to suffer but the grace of God will be your comfort. Pray the rosary every day to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war.

“After each decade say the following: 'O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell, and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who have most need of Thy mercy.”

Prayer and Sacrifice: "Pray, pray a great deal, and make sacrifices for sinners, for many souls go to Hell because they have no one to make sacrifices and pray for them."

Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary: "God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If people do what I tell you, many souls will be saved and there will be peace.”

First Saturday Devotion: "I promise to help at the hour of death with the graces needed for salvation those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, do confession, receive Holy Communion, say five Rosary decades and keep me company for fifteen minute-meditation on the mysteries, making reparation to my Immaculate Heart."

World Peace: "Tell everybody that God gives His graces through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, that the Heart of Jesus wishes to be venerated together with the Immaculate Heart of Mary, for the Lord has confided the peace of the world to her... In the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph, Russia will be converted; there will be peace."

These world events have borne out the Fatima messages:

Mama Mary said in 1917: “The (First World) war is going to end, but if people do not cease offending God, a worse one will break out during the pontificate of Pius XI.”

WW1, which started in 1914 ended in 1918.

WW2 erupted in 1939 and ended in 1945, “the fate of the war largely decided between the Marian Feasts, the Immaculate Conception (December 8, 1942) and Assumption (August 15, 1945).”

The attempted assassination of John Paul II (on May 13, 1981, on the anniversary of the first Marian apparition in Fatima) and “the Pope’s miraculous healing served as further confirmation of the reality/authenticity of the Fatima message.”

Sister Lucia predicted that a miracle would follow the March 25, 1984 act of consecration of Russia and the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by Pope John Paul II and the bishops of the world, in the presence of the statue of Our Lady of Fatima.

The world again witnessed the reality and authenticity of the Fatima message when “a failed coup attempt of August 22, 1991, i.e. on the Church’s old feast day of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, led to both the immediate collapse of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and the dissolution of the USSR four months later.”

Of serious note, just last March 25, 2022, Pope Francis entrusted and consecrated the Church and all humanity, especially Russia and Ukraine, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Shall we also again pray and consecrate our country to our Lady of Fatima who joined us during the 1986 People Power that toppled the Marcos dictatorship?
