What else can we expect?

THAT DOES IT - Korina Sanchez - The Freeman

I was not surprised when I learned Krizle Grace Mago was already given protection by the House of Representatives. She became incommunicado with the Senate for days after giving some damning testimony under oath on the ongoing investigation into Pharmally's dealings with this administration. I expected her statement to change at the very least. And that is exactly what happened when she testified at the House. What else can we expect?

According to Mago, she gave a "pressured response" at the Senate due to the supposed intense questioning by the senators. She said she was not in the right frame of mind and was not thinking clearly. The threat of being cited in contempt supposedly weighed heavily on her, especially after the arrest of Linconn Ong. Really? Isn't it much easier to tell the truth? If you watched the Senate hearing, I did not see Mago “stressed” while answering the senators. Mago was even calm as she was at her home giving testimony via teleconferencing. I did not see the senators badgering her while questioning. She gave spontaneous answers and was not pressured by anyone. Remember everything she stated at the Senate was under oath making her accountable. Another Pharmally employee also corroborated her statements at the time. Was that employee also "stressed" and not in the right frame of mind?

We know the House will abide by all the wishes and orders of President Duterte. It is what they do. What Duterte wants, he gets. To prove that, the Philippine Red Cross will be now be audited by the Commission on Audit even if it is not covered by its mandate as the PRC is a non-government organization after Duterte repeatedly made those threats. The solicitor general seems to have a hand in this as well. So when the House took Mago in, she now recants what she said at the Senate. As for being stressed, I would say crying while giving testimony is stressful. How I wish a behavioral psychologist would point out the differences in her disposition when she was giving testimony at the Senate and Congress. The results would be revealing.

The constant defense of the Palace and Congress for Pharmally shows its bias for the said company. The senators, although not surprised, refuted Mago's testimony at the House. Mago should be charged with perjury. Her testimony is on record and even on video and will still be used by the Blue Ribbon Committee in coming up with its report. The practice of recanting testimony once in custody by government allies must not be tolerated.
