On to 2020 with more US hypocrisy

TO THE QUICK - Jerry S. Tundag - The Freeman

Days before the year turns to 2020, poor losers from the Democratic Party in the US House of Representatives who cannot get over the Donald Trump victory in 2016 and who shudder to think he just might win again in 2020, have succeeded in impeaching the American president, even if a couple of their own partymates saw through the folly and actually voted against it.

And why was Trump impeached? Was it because he pressured Ukraine to investigate business deals involving the brother of former vice president Joe Biden? Or was it because Joe Biden happens to be a Democratic frontrunner in the 2020 presidential race? America is no stranger to pressuring foreign governments. On the day Trump was impeached, the US told the Philippines to free Leila de Lima, a senator facing drug-related charges.

So it must have something to do with Joe Biden, and the fact that he will be running against Trump in 2020. There is a reason Democrats want to preserve and protect Joe Biden. And that is because he is weak. If you noticed, I have to say Joe Biden repeatedly because Joe by Biden alone would collapse on its own insignificant weight. He cannot give Trump a run for his money. Yet he is the best the Democrats have.

Trump has been bedeviled by the Democrats right off the bat. From day one onward, the Democrats and the liberal media, with CNN leading the charge, never gave the duly elected president, a product of their own democratic system, a chance to carry out his style of governance. Choosing between homeland security and embracing immigrants, Trump chose the former. He was quickly pounced on by Democrats and liberal media.

But America is not really so hot on immigrants. It is so only when the best and the brightest among them can positively contribute to American self-interest. During World War II, America infamously interned thousands of Japanese US citizens for no other reason than that they were Japanese. It then dropped two atomic bombs on two Japanese cities, killing tens of thousands of innocent civilian lives.

Speaking of nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki, thereby becoming and still the only country ever to drop atomic bombs on people, America stands on record as the perpetrator of the most massive extrajudicial killings in the world. And yet it has the gall to interfere in the Philippine government's war on illegal drugs, some of which, as reported only days ago, were smuggled from the United States.

What Trump asked the Ukrainian president to do is pablum compared to what America does to foreign leaders and governments that displease it or do not toe its line. Just ask the CIA. The reason why American cinema is so vibrant and lucrative? Because it has a very fertile source of inspiration and narrative in American real life.

Democrats and other sore losers also accuse Trump of colluding with Russia to win the election, saying that country interfered with the process. One would have thought Russia hacked the system but no, it just played the good old American capitalist game of TV marketing. Russia merely took out TV ads for Trump. And what is wrong with that? If enough suckers believed the ads enough to vote for Trump, that is neither his nor Russia's fault.
