Why thousands of students love to study in UV
This year, our beloved institution celebrates its 100th anniversary. What are the factors that made UV the preferred school, after it survived wars, upheavals and disasters? These factors are also the reasons why thousands and thousands of parents opt to send their children to UV and would prefer it over other universities in the highly competitive field of education. There is something about UV that you cannot immediately see, but can only feel, discern, and experience, when you immerse yourself inside its campus. UV is not about tangible and material things. UV is about values, virtues, and core philosophy and principles. UV has never been a business of the Gullases, UV is their service to humanity. "Amor, servitum humanitas."
In UV, we don't brag of world-class buildings and cutting-edge equipment, although we do have them too. We never crow about the latest technology and laboratories, albeit ours are at par with the best in Cebu and all over the Philippines. We do not even blow our own horns about our multiple levels of PACUCOA accreditations, nor talk about our relevant and updated curricula, supported by highly-qualified education administrators and faculty. Our beloved UV is an institution of honor and integrity, even in an era where many others become experts in making money at the expense of their integrity. In UV, we are trained to be honest and to uphold the principle that character is more important than technical skills.
Our competitive advantage lies in the core philosophy, principles, and values that build a just, humane, and nurturing community of learners, with strong faith in God, love of country, and commitment to serve the people. We do not produce graduates that would plunder the nation's coffers, or businessmen, driven by greed and avarice. We live by the Gullas credo of honor above profits. Parents prefer to send their sons and daughters to UV because here, we look at character building as more imperative than expertise in technology. We do train for technical skills of course, but we always incorporate values into our teaching techniques. No Visayanian alumni would dare to plunder the government, nor shame his alma mater,
We do love UV because the Gullas Family provides a living example of faith in God, love of family, country, and service to humanity. We have a service-driven faculty that inspires learning and builds character. We have a culture of family inside the UV academic community, sharing and cooperation, harmony and teamwork. We have non-teaching personnel and support staff who are all helpful and dedicated. We have facilities that support our learning objectives and methods. Our curriculum is a balance between competence and character. In UV, we value respect for authority and respect for the law. We value relationships and cooperation, we listen to each other and we are inclusive of LGBT, PWDs, and cultural minorities. We do not discriminate on the basis of gender, age, religion, race, or status.
In UV, academic excellence is important, but integrity, honor, and character take precedence over intelligence. We value financial success but honesty and faithful service take precedence over wealth. UV knows what are really more valuable. The Gullases deeply understand what really matters most.
