Too much ado about candidates' emails

WHAT MATTERS MOST - Atty. Josephus B. Jimenez - The Freeman

The outcome of a presidential election cannot, for the life of us, depend on how a candidate handled his or her emails. The US presidential candidates have a lot of bigger issues to address and worry about, like the immigration issues, medical care, the worsening peace and order situation in the Middle East, the rising incidence of global terrorisms, the ceaseless deterioration of the environment, the recurring threats of deadly viruses posing grave dangers to the health of peoples all over the world, and too many natural and man-made disasters.

Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton has already accepted responsibility and apologized for her mishandling the matter, and the FBI earlier found no cause to indict any one, in the absence of any criminal act or negligence. Now that a personal assistant's email has been looked into, the same FBI unwittingly gave aid and comfort to the Trump campaign by raising the issue again barely a week before election day. This is seriously disconcerting and disturbing. This may unduly affect the outcome of the elections.

There are many issues confronting the American voting populace, such as a better and more viable medical care program, a balanced and fair immigration policy, particularly on how to deal with illegal immigrants, and still another problem is how to protect the nation and the people from the recurring threats of global terrorism. Instead of focusing on the hackneyed and overused issue of mishandling of emails, many US voters had been hoping that the campaign conversations should level up to a higher ground.

For instance, why doesn't Donald Trump take on Hillary's challenge as to who between the two leading candidates is best suited to be the next commander-in-chief of all the US armed forces.

Why don't the candidates talk of their respective qualifications on how to reshape American military policies, especially the question of deploying American forces on the ground, on air or in maritime warfare?

Why don't they discuss the government's policies for veterans, especially those wounded, maimed and killed in action?

And why don't the two presidential bets discuss as to who between Clinton and Trump have better familiarity and experience in managing US foreign policies, who is more knowledgeable about global terrorisms and geo-politics?

Why don't they debate on how to defeat the ISIS and how to make America and the world safer for the people of all colors, races and religions?

Those emails have distracted the whole nation and the world from the bigger and more jugular issues that really matter most.
