Today's versions of the slaughter of the innocents

WHAT MATTERS MOST - Atty. Josephus B. Jimenez - The Freeman

Dateline: Cairo, Egypt. We are here in the country where St Joseph brought the child Jesus and his wife Mary to escape from the terrors of Herod. As we are about to wind up our pilgrimage here in the Holy land, we pause today to remember the slaughter of the innocents ordered by King Herod. We had in fact visited yesterday the very same place where Herod lived and held court. We also took a look at the house of Joseph and Mary where the angel Gabriel appeared to St Joseph in a dream. The angel told Joseph to wake up and immediately escape to Egypt with Mama Mary and the infant Jesus. Today, as we recall those tragic times, we reflect also on the hundreds of thousands of children all over the world who are still being slaughtered figuratively by abuses, exploitation and neglect, especially the Filipino children.

The slaughter today may no longer be the killing of the human bodies but the desecration of their human dignity. Millions of children all over the world and in the Philippines are subjected to human trafficking, illegal recruitment and made to work as sex slaves by syndicates local, regional, and global. There are many child prostitutes selling their bodies right here in Malate, Makati, Quezon City, Cebu City, and environs. Male and female, these young children are being exploited by foreign pedophiles and by their own sex-starved elder family members, guardians, even religious priests and pastors. The Pope himself, both St John Paul Benedict XVI and Francis, has admitted this endemic travesty of the young by some priests and deacons.

Here in Cebu, in Lapu-Lapu City, Cordova, Mandaue, Talisay and environs, there are reported sex dens where the parents themselves have pressured their young children and wards to go naked via the internet and engage in website sex activities with foreign clients all over the world. There are many minors working as massage girls or massage boys as fronts for prostitutions. Hotel and room services are being offered with the operators of syndicates getting the largest shares in prostitution money. The DSWD must either be ignorant or uncaring so as not to address this social malady with decisive action. Or, they simply do not care at all.

Tourists come to Manila and Cebu not only to play golf or gamble in the casinos. They want to have sex with young and innocent-looking male and female prostitutes who roam around as vagrants in the wee hours of the night. Many of these young child prostitutes are being peddled by pimps in the hotel lobbies and in the peripheries of casinos and resort complexes. The DSWD and the police are either clueless entirely or they benefit out of the sex trade. Whether it is by negligence or by malice, if Digong Duterte wins as president, these neglectful or corrupt government personnel will get their ARTICULO UNO from the no-nonsense Duterte as president. There shall be no compromise on this modern slaughter of the innocents.

The Church should be in the forefront of this needed crusade and should lead all NGOs and citizens' movement against all forms of exploitation of minors. Faith without action is dead. Bishops and priests cannot save the souls of the faithful if many of their children are being sold in the flesh market, and the Church leaders would rather talk of other evils like the alleged vulgarity of Digong Duterte. At least Duterte is proposing concrete actions, not like some scribes and Pharisees who are all NATO.. No Action, Talk Only. Of course, we condemn summary killings and vulgarity. But as compared to self-righteousness, the sins of Duterte may dwarf in the eyes of the almighty.
