Perpetuo A. Magbutay, Street, Cebu City

It is the street formerly named as "Dakilang Pito Avenue" in Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City which starts near the Lapinid residence towards the dead end.

Perpetuo A. Magbutay was a prominent citizen of Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City who unselfishly dedicated his life in the service of the community during the administration of three barangay captains in Punta Princesa. Magbutay was called by his contemporaries as "Our Chief for Life" because he was also active in the campaign for law, peace and order as well as very influential in various civic activities.

Chief Magbutay since the inception of the barrio government of Punta Princesa he served without compensation. He volunteered even as he was the choice among other enterprising individuals to head the barrio police where the barangay has earned the reputation of being the most peaceful and orderly urban community.

Perpetuo Magbutay fondly called as Berting by his numerous friends spent most of his 65 years in Barangay Punta Princesa, precisely at Sitio Dakilang Pito with his loving wife and children.

Magbutay also served the military and was a veteran of the Second World War and at the time of his death on April 6, 1986, he was an official of the Veterans Association and greatly admired by his comrades.

Magbutay in the book "The Koga Papers" written by Col. Manuel F. Segura wrote that Magbutay, who had a rank of Corporal was one of the reliable non-commissioned officers of Sergeant Concordio Diel. The platoon led by Diel among its many accomplishments was the one that was tasked to stop the passing through Mananga River of the Japanese Imperial Army that sent a punitive force to take the guerilla general headquarters at Tabunan.

Cpl. Magbutay led the detachment of six men, whose mission was to stop enemy forces passing through Mananga River which may climb up to Cantipla forest. Dam-an Hill was opposite Pamutan Hill to the east.

After the war, Concordio Diel was elected mayor of Cagayan de Oro City and assemblyman of Region 9.

The Cebu City Council on August 4, 1986 (four months after the death of Magbutay) enacted City Ordinance No. 1221 that renamed Dakilang Pito Avenue to Perpetuo Magbutay Street.

Perpetuo Magbutay Street is the whole strip of the city street formerly called as Dakilang Pito Avenue located at Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City which starts from the corner of Tres de Abril Street near the Lapinid Residence (Atty. Virgilio Lapinid) until the dead end.

The ordinance was sponsored by then Councilor Clemente G. Rama (uncle of current Mayor Michael Lopez Rama) and Councilor Nicolen R. Aricayos (who served as barangay captain of Labangon).

The members of the city council that enacted the ordinance were Jose Veloso Cuenco as Presiding Officer, Atty. Pedro C. Son (later to become judge and taught for a long time in the College of Law of the University of San Jose Recoletos) as President Pro Tempore, Clemente G. Rama as assistant floor leader.

The members were Atty. Alfonso U. Alerre (later to become regional director of the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board of Region 7 and general manager of Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority), Nicolen R. Aricayos, Antolin Abellanosa Avila Jr., Atty. Eulogio B. Borres Jr. (later to become Assistant Public Prosecutor of Cebu City), Julio B. Climaco, Atty. Augusto W. Go (president of University of Cebu and Honorary Consul of South Korea), Panfilo B. Malazarte, Dr. Pureza T. Onate, and Mario R. Veloso.
