Heavy traffic

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

A cop was arrested after taking another cop's wife to a motel. They said they did nothing wrong inside the motel. The taxi drivers hanging out near the motel chorused: "Estoryahe!"

A fish vendor upon reading the news about the arrest of some pimps and sex workers was heard saying: "Hala ibartolina na. Nagda ra nag bagyo!"

My high school classmate Arnold Roy, now a retired professor, shakes his head everytime he hears people complain about the heavy traffic. "Heavy traffic is a sign of progress," says Arnold. "Where can you see a progressive city with only a handful of cars on the road?"

***

Arnold adds: "That was the city we saw when only tartanillas ruled the streets. And the business scene was ruled only by sari-sari stores."

North Korea has ordered people who share the name of leader Kim Jong-un to change their name. No one is allowed to have the same name as the Nokor leader. I like to think or guess that there are Nokors who welcome the order. Some people don't want to carry the name of someone desliked by many citizens of the world.

It says here that the Ombudsman is seeking Sen. Bong Revilla's transfer to the regular jail after his bid to be granted bail was rejected. Bong's showbiz fans must be sad. And sadder still considering recent developments where fellow detainees were allowed to withdraw their salary and even file bills.

Yolanda was a good mentor-tormentor. After punishing thousands in Leyte and Samar last year everyone learned the lesson she imparted. When super typhoon Ruby was coming everyone who had learned the lesson from Yolanda just packed up like obedient kids and sought refuge in safer places without being told.

Thanks to my friends Sam Costanilla and Ate Ging for greeting me in their very popular CCTN Ch. 47 show. I had a talk with some seniors who count in the community and they, like me, say they never miss the show because the music/song dished out are well selected old favorites. "Sometimes listening to Ate Ging sing the days of our youth come back," said Diego "Peewee" Saliendra, now a retired plane pilot instructor.

OVERHEARD. The news says PNOY will ask Pope Francis to pray for less calamities in the Philippines. His request should be supported by all Pinoys regardless of religious affiliations affected by the natural disasters. That's my take. "Mao say akong 'take' Sir, says a schoolteacher. "Grabe na kaayo ning kalamidad nga miigo nato oi." A mother's comment: "Mipakita si PNoy sa iyang pagsalig sa Diyos, Ikalipay ta na." Another comment: "Bitaw oi. Asa ma diay siya mosalig sa mga kauban niyang politiko?"
