Why acacia trees?

THE EAR - The Freeman

ACACIA. During a social studies meeting of two elementary school sections here in the city some pupils asked their teachers why all old trees standing near the public schools are acacia trees. One teacher passed the question on to the teacher presiding over the meeting. He did not know but instead of saying, "I don't know" he said: "Some of the trees are rubber trees."

UNANSWERED. It did not answer the pupil's question. "Ngano lagi, Sir? Nganong mga acacia man?" One student was insistent. An Ear informer, a carpenter fixing the classroom's ceiling, intervened: "Pangutan-a nyo ang principal."
