Good looks

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

Yesterday, June 15, was Father's Day. Last year, I had a friend who wore a t-shirt that said: "Ang sandiganan nga pader."

* * *

Of course, you know what the message meant. You're not a 'pader' if you didn't get the message," said my friend.

Some P8 million worth of illegal drugs (shabu) were recently confiscated by PDEA agents. The drugs were hidden in the soles of sandals. The drug smugglers never run out of ways to destroy our souls.

The Philippines wants to be made an international wedding destination. Part of tourism promotion. "Nice," said someone I know. "I wonder what the reaction would be of tourism officials if they know all couples in my neighborhood are only 'living-living,' no church wedding?"

It says here that good looks are the key to having better chances of getting hired. Which means that a job applicant with good looks has better chances to land a job.

Minda (not her real name), an accounting degree holder, said this is true. She had applied for a job with several firms but never got hired. "I looked at my face in the mirror," she said, "and I knew why." She added: "Tinuod bitaw, Sir, no kidding."

* * *

Now Minda is planning to run for Congress in 2016. Her intention is: "If elected, I'd author a bill that would make it a crime for anyone to deprive a job-seeker of the chance to get hired because of his or her looks."

Minda said: "I am not joking. I am serious. I want to give the not-so-good-looking job seekers a chance to get hired." Hehehe!

NBA star Andray Blatche is now Pinoy. He carries on his shoulder a heavy responsibility. First, to prove to Congress that they didn't err in making him Pinoy. And, second, to make Chot Reyes' dream come true.

OVERHEARD. The lotto jackpot amounting to millions of pesos usually goes to only one winner. It has been suggested that if the grand jackpot hits beyond P100 million and only one bettor wins, the amount should be broken into smaller millions so more bettors could end up winner. A lotto player from Punta Princesa doesn't like the idea. The bettor said: "Di ko mosugot nga bahin-bahinon ang jackpot. Kun padag-on ko, akoon ang tanan. Lisud baya makadaug ta." Remarked someone: "Mao nay pilosopiya sa mga hangol." This nearly caused a rumble.
