"Cops on Board"

The "Cops on Board" program of the Cebu City Police Office as a way to check the mounting bus accidents is okay. It will keep the boose drivers on their toes.

I remember the police marshals who rode the buses to solve the then proliferating holdups on board. It was a success, according to a police officer friend of mine. But the holdup incidents were back after the marshals were pulled out. Well, you know, bad men get back to work when the cops are not looking.

Sir Archie Modequillo's article about "Utan Bisaya" was as delectable as the utan. Sir Archie says Utan Bisaya is the gustatory delight of middle-and-lower class Visayans. That is true specially as far as the "class" I belong to is concerned.

But I once heard Jose Mari Chan answer "laswa" when asked on tv about his favorite native food. "Laswa" is the Western Visayan word for "Utan Bisaya," said Sir Archie. And Jose Mari Chan is over and above middle class.

The UNTV basketball tournament in Manila is a rarity in Phl hoopdom. The competing teams are government agencies. The champion gets a P1 million cash prize which the members agree--in keeping with the league rules -- to donate to the charitable organization of their choice.

In a manner of speaking the players seeing action in the UNTV Cup are all good samaritans since what they win (cash prize) they give to the people in need.

After his socialite girlfriend gave birth to a baby boy, Simon Cowell of the "X-Factor" fame, said as he cuddled Baby Eric on his breast: "I never knew that having a son could give me so much pride and joy." I hope my father shared the sentiment of Simon Cowell when I was born. Hehehe.

OVERHEARD. A grand welcome awaits ice skater Michael Christian Martinez who captured the hearts of local and international Winter Olympics watchers with his topnotch performance. Comments of approval were heard from Michael's new found fans in Cebu. A father was heard telling friends: "Akong misis mabdos ako gipasigi'g tan-aw sa performance ni Michael basin pa lang mabantug sab nga ice skater among anak." A friend replied: "Maayo tingali nga bayran sa gobyerno ang nagasto sa Martinez family pagpaadto nila ni Michael sa Russia. Ang dungog naangkon ta gikan ni Michael dili kabayran og sapi."
