Will we see more senators expose Pres. PNoy?

The cat is finally out of the proverbial bag and because of the “Made-for-TV” power point presentation given by Sen. Bong Revilla at the Senate the other day. In trying to defend himself; he pointed to Pres. PNoy Aquino as the man whom he met at the Bahay Pangarap just before the voting for the Senate Impeachment trial of former Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Renato Corona. This is a scenario that we’ve already had a hunch that it happened more than a year ago. Were it not for the Pork Barrel scam, that meeting with Pres. PNoy and Sen. Revilla would never have surfaced.

Again, I attribute this exposure to the consecration of the Philippines to the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IMH) last June 8, 2013 because just two months after all the Bishops in the Philippines did this consecration, the Pork Barrel scam blew into the national scene. Mind you, a similar pork scam was uncovered way back in August 1996, but somehow, it did not result in an indignation Filipino nation. Now heaven is helping us expose this corruption!

Today, the ordinary Filipino is totally disgusted with the way things are happening within our political establishment… that the Political Elite had taken liberties with the national coffers, arrogating upon themselves how to disburse public funds, many of which ended in the pockets of the Political Elite. The Pork Barrel scam has totally damaged that once venerable institution called the Legislature, because now it can be told that each Senator/Judge got P50 million from the Pork Barrel fund so that he would change his vote to convict CJ Corona. Yes the SC should investigate this case.

That DILG Sec. Mar Roxas personally drove Sen. Revilla (he ditched his driver and bodyguard so they could be alone) to the Bahay Pangarap is more than enough proof of their sinister effort to influence those Senators who do not belong to the Liberal Party to vote against CJ Corona. Meanwhile, Sen. Revilla said that he voted to convict CJ Corona because “he deserved it” is the biggest issue at hand… because many of us believe that Sen. Revilla is lying through his teeth. We believe that Pres. PNoy “cajoled, enticed or bribed” Sen. Revilla so he would change his vote. Otherwise, why bother to meet him at all if they knew that he would vote to convict?

In the end, a great number of Filipinos believe that Pres. PNoy is guilty of violating the constitution, which is now given proof through the privilege speech of Sen. Revilla. Surely, other Senators who may have met with the President on the same issue are just waiting in the wings to also expose the whole truth about this incident. So we expect more exposes to come.

I just learned that Atty. Esperanza “Nang Sising” Valenzona, a great Cebuana, has passed on to eternal life. If few people today remember her, I guess it’s because she was already 96-years old when she died last week. Nang Sising was the founder of the Share-A-Child Movement, an NGO that took care of defenseless children because back in the 1980’s when nobody really cared for these downtrodden children, especially when they ran in conflict with the law. Like a guardian angel, instead of being thrown to prison, Nang Sising took care of them despite her having so many children of her own.

You can say that Nang Sising was in so many ways a pioneering woman who showed her Catholicism by loving those unloved children… many of whom were abandoned by their own parents. She was the inspiration for the creation of the Task Force for Street Children and helped in the training programs for the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center (BBRC). This was due to her being the President of the Federacion Internacional de Abogadas (FIDA) Cebu Chapter and as founder of the FREELAVA, Inc.

Because of her advocacy to help poor children, Nang Sising received so many awards in her lifetime. In 1991, she was Model Filipino Awardee, in 1996; the Manila Jaycees awarded her the Mother Theresa Award. During the 40th Charter Day celebration of Cebu City on Feb. 1997, Nang Sising was given a special award for her Community Service. On August 1998, the Supreme Court of the Philippines gave her a special recognition for Enhancing Communications between the Judiciary and the Citizenry and on October 2001 the Soroptimist International of Cebu gave her a Woman of Distinction Award.

This is really a very long list of awards that Nang Sising got in her lifetime and if we wrote it all, I’d ran out of space for this column. I went to her wake at the Lourdes Parish last Tuesday evening. After my prayer, I asked Nang Sising to intercede for us to God in heaven because I have no doubt that God has rewarded her for her life’s work. Her burial is today at the Cebu Memorial Park after the 9:00AM Mass in Lourdes Parish. Cebu has lost a great daughter and I’m proud to have known her as a friend. May I request our pious reader to offer a little prayer for Nang Sising.
